A worksplate, KERR, STUART & Co LTD, 4225 of 1923. From a standard gauge 0-4-0ST, one of six Kerr, Stuart "Moss Bay" class locomotives ordered for stock in 1922, although only five, 4223 to 4227 were actually built. The first two were 5ft 6in gauge examples sold for export in 1922 but the other three remained in stock for many years before sale. 4225 was sold in May 1929 to Doncaster Coalite Ltd, Askern, Yorkshire West Riding, where it spent all its working life until withdrawn and scrapped late in 1964. Cast brass, 12¾"x6¾", ex loco condition with maroon paint. £200-350

Its later sheds were Tyne Dock, Goole, Hull Dairycoates, York, Heaton and Gateshead from where it was withdrawn in December 1963 and sold for scrap to T.J.Thomson at Stockton-on-Tees. Lot 30 Worksplates (Diesel): Hudswell Clarke, DM1435, 1979.
A worksplate, HUDSWELL, CLARKE DM 1435 of 1979 from a 2ft 6in gauge flamproofed diesel locomotive built for underground work. The locomotive was actually constructed by the Hunslet Engine Company and given their works number 8583. Delivered new as No 5 to NCB Peckfield Colliery, Micklefield, Yorkshire. Transferred to Wheldale Colliery at Castleford in January 1981 and then in 1988 to the NCB Kellingley Training Centre at Knottingley. Taken over by RJB Mining when the coal industry was privatised and eventually passed into preservation. Presently located at the Royal Forest of Dean's Mining Museum, Clearwell Caves, Coleford. Cast brass, 8¼"x4", ex loco condition. £80-120

A nameplate, PALLAH, from a LNER B1 Class 4-6-0 No 1025 built at Darlington, Works No 2005, in April 1947 and named after a type of red South African antelope. It became BR 61025. A shedplate 2A Rugby (1935 to September 1963), then Tyseley (September 1963 until closure to steam November 1966). The ex LNWR shed at Rugby was home to around 100 locos in the 1950s. A handful of Patriots, Jubilees, Britannias and a solitary Princess Royal made up the 60 locos there during the 1960s, before it was recoded 1F. Ex GWR Tyseley was moved to the LMR in 1963 but retained GWR locos to within a few months of closure; Castles, Halls, and Granges being of note. Repainted. £100-200

Transferred to Holwell Ironworks, Leicestershire in August 1957 and to Riddings Foundry, Alfreton, Derbyshire in September 1961. Scrapped around 1968. Cast brass, length 30¾", the front repainted. The nameplate is sold with a good quality wood mount. £350-500

A worksplate, NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE COMPANY, 24684, 1941, from a Stanier type 8F 2-8-0 built to Ministry of Supply order by NBL for the War Department, WD No 376. Shipped new to Persian Railways in August 1941, their No 41.156, it was renumbered 70376 on returning to the UK and became BR 48253 in 1948. Its sheds included Bidston, Llandudno Junction, Mold Junction and Lostock Hall from where it was withdrawn in August 1968 and sold for scrap to Wards at Beighton, Sheffield. Cast brass, diameter 7¾", the front cleaned. £150-300
