Great Central Railwayana Auction Sale 258, Auction Lot 251
Lot 251 A nameplate, CALCUTTA, from a GWR 3300 Bulldog Class 4-4-0 built at Swindon, Works No 2051, in March 1904 and named after the capital city of the Indian State of West Bengal, one of a group of Bulldogs given names relating to the then British Empire. Originally numbered 3468, it was renumbered 3406 under a renumbering scheme introduced in 1912. Allocated new to Penzance, it was at Pontypool Road by January 1948, moving the following year to Hereford from where it was withdrawn on 31 January 1951 and cut up at Swindon Works in the four weeks ending 24 March 1951.
