Great Central Railwayana Auction Sale 245, Auction Lot 254
Lot 254 A nameplate, CUDWORTH, with REMEMBRANCE CLASS appendage below, from a London Brighton & South Coast Railway 4-6-4 Baltic tank No 330 built at Brighton in December 1921, becoming SR 2330 and BR 32330. In September 1934 it was reconstructed at Brighton as a 4-6-0 tender engine and re-classified to N15X Remembrance Class. At the same time it was named after James l'Anson Cudworth, the Locomotive Superintendent of the South Eastern Railway from 1845-76. In mid-1947 all of this small class of seven locos were allocated to Basingstoke and Cudworth was withdrawn from there in the week ending 13 August 1955 and cut up at Eastleigh Works by the following 24 September. Cast brass, length 31½", the front repainted. £7000-9000
